VERANDAH'S HISTORY

OUR STORY

Verandah Sportswear was founded by Ferris Deal Goul and Ashley Goul.

Ferris graduated from the University of Idaho and the University of Alabama with a degree in Clothing and Textile Design. She began her career in El Paso, Texas, designing western products for the Tony Lama Boot Company. Later, she joined Ashley at the Robert Comstock Company in Idaho, where she sourced fine leathers and findings for a couture line featured in the windows of Bergdorf Goodman in New York City.

Ashley started his career at the Chicago Board of Trade before joining Robert Comstock full-time. When the company needed leadership for a new sample factory in Hong Kong, Ashley and Ferris stepped up—managing a team of 33 craftsmen, merchandisers, and office staff to produce high-end leather garments in small quantities.

VERANDAH'S HISTORY

THE JOURNEY TO VERANDAH

Ashley and Ferris enjoyed working together at the crazy Hong Kong factory pace, so they decided to take a big chance and create their own fate. Seeking inspiration one night after work, Ashley scattered the stock market quote pages from the South China Morning Post across the floor of their flat and decided that Ferris would toss her pen over her shoulder and wherever it landed, that was the industry they were going to conquer.

The pen landed on Berkshire Hathaway- which, according to the outdated stock guide they were using, was still described simply as a diversified textile manufacturer. And just like that, their direction was set; they would enter into the textile industry and build a clothing business.

After a year of planning in San Diego, they returned to Boise and launched Verandah Sportswear in October 1991. What began as a local cut-and-sew apparel factory has evolved into a company that delivers high-impact, custom branding solutions—driven by energy, empathy, and precision.
